They can be cars, helicopters and other such things which have become so popular in its niche group. These toys can be easily controlled and comes with a lot of features that prove attractive for the kids. Then comes the puzzles. They can be varied and provide a good mental exercise for the kids. Also, these puzzles can be played by kids of all age groups and they come in accordance with the certain age groups. So much so, the adults can also play these games with utmost ease and convenience. These toys therefore have been one of the most important sources of entertainment and puzzles are one of them.

You can also give active toys to your kids which would keep him/her physically active as well. The child tends to relax more than to involve in the physical activity. So, if your kid is becoming fatter day by day and is less keen in doing some physical exercises, the best that you can do is to involve him or her in one of these exercises which are so helpful in providing him physical fitness as well. Then, the stuff toys can also be an important source of entertainment for these kids. They can be easily made at home as well and they are very cute and cuddly which would be loved by the kids of all age groups.

Jacob Marshal, a dedicated writer of Rupizcompare.co.uk which provide Info on Toys and Games with Game and Games Consoles and Online Game Shops

<p>What are the best toys and board games? As someone who has played with toys and board games most of my 46 years, I definitely have some opinions on the subject. I also have two small boys so I am both acquainted with the toys of my generation and the current generation. Having two boys, I am also very familiar with video games, but that will definitely be the subject of another article.</p><p>So lets start with toys. There are some toys that seem fantastic on Christmas morning that really don't hold their value. For instance a race car track. Its fun to race the cars for a little while but after a while it gets boring. On the other hand, the new RC cars provide hours of fun. I definitely think those are some of the best of the recent toys. Some of the classic toys definitely belong on the list of best toys ever. I would include the Yo-Yo and Etch a Sketch in this category. For something a little bigger that two can play at, I would choose Electric Football. That is not a favorite of this generation, but I don't care. Its one of the best. I'm not sure what it is called but that bounce thing that kids hop on is also a classic. How about Battling Tops and Rockem SockEm Robots. Okay I am dating myself. But like I said, kids today play a lot more with video games than with toys.</p><p>Okay, lets move on to board games. The all time best has to be Monopoly. There is nothing like a family game of monopoly. (Especially when its raining on a Saturday afternoon). I would put scrabble number two on the list, and Clue at number 3. I do notice that if I can pry my kids away from the video games, they really enjoy a board game. And when they were really young, they liked two other classic; Candyland and Shoots and Ladders. Well, its New Years Day Today. I think its time to pull out a board game and play!</p><p>Harry Skillings loves playing with toys and board games with his sons and family. He recommends <a target="_new" href="http://www.RockytheRobot.com">Rocky the Robot</a><br> for boys 3 and up this holiday season. As far as board games go, he recommends <a target="_new" href="http://www.Quirkleboardgame.com">Quirkle</a> Quirkle has a chance to be a new Classic.</p>

Have you ever listened to and watched children playing? The child for a few minutes or hours have become shipwrecked, parents or police. As they seem absorbed in their games. The objects that surround them sometimes turn into a telescope, sometimes sword. They play the main role of a story invented to measure, which leads them into an imaginary world. Their sole purpose: having fun. But while having fun, looking for anything, these kids are doing a lot of learning.

They develop both their motor skills by manipulating objects necessary to play their intellect in order to keep the lounge cushions and blankets that will form their refuge, their language in describing the events and their sociability with respect for each role. This is an example to show you that all activities of childhood as trivial they may seem to represent a game children. The game is part of their lives.

The toy? This can be any object found in the house or nature, provided it serves to support the game, it becomes a toy from when the child decides to use it well.

The best toys are those that offer more opportunities to play or leave room for imagination. And do not forget that the game should be source of pleasure.

Psychomotor development

It should be understood that the skills acquired we describe in chronological order but not necessarily a given age. The ages mentioned in this article are approximate and represent an average. Do not be alarmed if your child shows a slight delay or shout if engineering is ahead. One reason could be against it is much more advanced in some aspects than others (champions puzzle but not able to ride on two wheels). Different factors may influence the development of a child's personal tastes, the stimulation of his surroundings, his rank in the family, his health, his ability to concentrate, etc.. Moreover, we can not put its energies everywhere at once.

Senses

The young baby gradually awakens to its environment through its senses. He needs to contact and physical play to develop harmoniously. It should stimulate the senses with noisy toys, colorful, varied textures he can handle, shake and make up to her mouth.

Grip

At first he sees everything around him of lying. At three months he can track an object the eyes (mobile music). He looks at everything that moves, especially if the colors are very contrasting. This is called the location of the object. Gradually his grip is improving, five months he was able to grasp an object, to maintain and release him when he wishes (rattles). About eight months it may even make things between his thumb and forefinger. At this age, you will often see a child again and repeat the same gestures simply to observe the effect. Sitting in his high chair, he will launch his toy on the floor again and again until you accept to play with him and give him the object. It can also simply practice to improve its performance.

Shift

About eight months, his muscle tone allows him to remain seated. His vision of the world is changing perspective. It can more easily manipulate the toys you put in its scope (activity center). Many acts of gross motor skills develop from this age: shaking, hitting, throwing, running, pushing, pulling, etc.. The creeping and crawling can open new horizons. This is the age of exploration and household drawers. What a pleasure to completely empty the cupboard of plastic dishes and then install it and play the cuckoo with Mom or Dad. Now he can roll a small car or stacking some blocks. The greatest pleasure of course, is to make them fall.

Walking

The conquest of walking helps children to broaden its scope. He loves all the games which involve motor movements such as rocking, riding, pulling and pushing, moving, etc.. It must be encouraged with the play equipment which allows him to stand up and build walking (trotter). Once it has acquired a good balance, he will take pleasure in pulling or pushing a toy to him even if the object produces sounds fun.

Gross motor

During the following year, the child improves his coordination and develops muscular strength. Visits to the park to give him multiple opportunities to develop these skills and increase his muscle strength. About two years, the maturation of the nervous system and muscles allow him to dance, climb, jump, run, tec. It can even ride soon. More gross motor will be well developed, the easier it is to master the fine motor movements.

Fine Motor

Gradually, by dint of handling parts, the recessed the nest, stack, the child improves his dexterity. He is preparing to perform actions involving smaller movements of the hand and fingers... A host of activities will improve dexterity and precision of action. All exercises such as threading, drawing, cutting, manipulating the clay to prepare your child writing and may be undertaken at two years. Several kindergarten teachers say that cutting is the least skill acquired when children enter school. Plus they have made such activities more they have the facility to run their pencil to trace the letters.

Body image

As the child develops physically, he was increasingly aware of his body and place it occupies in space. It is easy to see when you design a doll for children three to six years that they have different mental image of their body. Gradually, they discover through exercise and awareness.

Laterality

The lateral dominance is established about four years. From this age they will know if the child is right handed or left handed.

General physical qualities

Starting six years there has been an improvement in general physical qualities: endurance, strength, flexibility, rhythm, etc.. Children love to practice to excel in specific activities: rope skipping, ball games, cycling, jazz ballet, rollerblading, etc.. Some children develop a taste for certain sports: basketball, hockey, soccer, baseball, and want the equipment more sophisticated, while others prefer manual activities (crafts, drawing, crafts).

Finally, the two criteria for selecting a toy and a game are:

The child and nature (age, abilities, personality, environment, needs, desires), the toy itself (educational value, aesthetics, security and contribution to child development). Personally, as a doctor, I've found the LEAPFROG LEARNING GAMES the best educational games ever for my 8 month baby, they innovate everyday and take care of child development while inventing their toys, so check out http://www.froglearninggames.com for the AMAZON BEST SELLERS LEARNING GAMES AND TOYS

Educational toys and games, when smartly guided and supervised by adults, can be a powerful tool for early education and learning process. For many, games and toys are simply what they seem to appear: implements of recreational activities for children. But when properly understood, and used effectively, educational toys and games can result in more emotionally stable and intelligent children.

In terms of education, the absorption of knowledge in children usually takes in the form of formal and informal learning. Formal learning constitutes enrolling in school or entry to any similar educational institutions.

Informal education on the other hand takes place outside schools and is mediated by resources and people outside the classroom. But actually, differences between the two are not that wide. For instance, activities in informal education are eventually used to strengthen formal education.

One of the activities frequently used in informal learning environment is playing games among children, and having them play certain educational toys to achieve the desired result. Since children are by nature learners, and have this capacity to absorb almost everything, a good combination of educational toys and games can really produce encouraging results.

The importance of proper educational toys and games for children is now a settled maxim that there are many literatures now which explain the importance of using educational games and toys to strengthen early learning in children. Both the reasoning power and emotional abilities of children can be developed during plays, using the right games and toys.

In using toys for re-enforcing educational games, adults should be keen in observing the children's individual personality. This would help the children realize their potential early, and encourage them to pursue their leanings, encouraging them to play similar games and educational toys, thus, strengthening the talent.

However, it should be noted that there are differences in the development of children, in terms of their reasoning and emotional capability. Also the individual personality of children should be considered, before deciding on the appropriate educational toys and games for learning or simply, playing purposes.

It should also be noted that as children grow older, does necessarily mean the end of educational toys and games. As they are approaching the adolescent stage, children experience emotional upheavals, which can be stabilize to a certain degree, by engaging into games appropriate for their age, one of which is sports. Sports, from the most physical like boxing to more mental like chess, is just an expression of humans never-ending need to play games and toys.

Low Jeremy maintains http://educational-toys.articlesforreprint.com.
Among the most famous of all plush toys is the teddy bear, which Teddy Roosevelt had a big part in making so popular. Children en masse sought these stuffed animals out, they are still the number one on the market.

There have been quite a few famous plush toys that have graced the market with their presence. We have beanie babies that weren't so plush but were still categorized as such. Then there are talking varieties that hit the toy markets beginning in the eighties, Teddy Ruxpan was the first. Now we have interactive, almost robotic ones that look like dogs and cats.

They come in many different types. There are some that are filled with fiber fill, and some that are filled with cotton batting, some have micro beads as filling. There are stuffed animals that are shaggy and some that are short haired and others yet that are in between. There are life like ones that sit on shelves and huggable ones that are dragged around by a limb. Most of the best loved plush toys are made to look like animals.

A stuffed animal is usually one of the first gifts a young lady will receive from and admirer, this becomes a favored keepsake. They are also often given as gifts to babies, and these are also kept as keepsakes. There are some that are available to mark the new year, and varieties that are delivered with flowers to mark anniversaries, birthdays and just for pick me up type gifts. Stuffed animals and other plushy toys are kept as keepsakes for many different reasons. They may just sit in a box in the attic or shoved to the back of the closet, but they always bring back instant memories upon sight.

Some plush toys come with sewn on accessories, these types should not be given to very small children because there is a choking hazard. Always be sure to make age appropriate choices when sharing these fantastic and timeless toys with the young ones in your life.

Everyone had a stuffed animal or other soft toy that they absolutely loved as a child, and chances are you have your favorite one put away in a box somewhere in your home. Over the years plush toys have never gone "out of style" or "away" -- they are just as much of a household staple as ever.

What is more enjoyable than watching your kids play outdoors in the summer? You sit out with them and are able to see all their antics along with hearing their laughter. It is nice to see them having so much fun while playing. The kids are so imaginable with their use of their outdoor toys.

They believe that the backyard is anything but a backyard. It is a sports arena, an expressway full of cars, or the beach. Their adventures all depend on the toys they have and the setup of your backyard.

The yard is not the only place you get to see your kids play in the summer though. You go to the lake or the beach too. Of course you may also have a pool in your yard too. Whichever the setting is for water fun, your kids will splash, laugh, and thoroughly enjoy the day.

Now you can find toys for any of these scenarios to enhance your kid's fun today. You have the riding toys, some motorized some not, if they want to pretend they are traveling or a race car driver. You have plenty of sport-themed games your kids can play, anything from golf to soccer.

Then there are the monkey bars for climbing on, they can pretend they are going up a mountain even. The kids are so funny when they reach the top; it is such a victory for them. We forget how wondrous it is to be a child playing.

Then with all the pool toys you can buy today, they will never want to come out of the water. They can use things to help them float, chase things that swim through the water, or even bounce a ball off the water. There is even a trampoline the floats!

Floats have been around for years but the floats today come in versions that hold more than one person. Your child and their friends can all get on the multi-person version. In fact this version will even hold adults.

There are all sorts of dashers the travel through the water for the kids to swim with. These come in a variety of fish species, turtles, and other creatures. Let's not forget to mention the water game versions of popular sports such as basketball.

A neat ball is out today that actually bounces off of water. Can you believe that? Well do because it does. The kids will have all sorts of fun throwing this ball and trying to catch it.

If your kids love to jump around a bunch combine this with their love of water. You do this by getting them floating trampoline. They can get on this while in the water whether it be the pool, lake, or at the beach and jump. Of course you should be nearby to make sure they are safe while having fun on it.

These are just some of the ideas of toys that can provide your kids with outdoor summer fun. You will find many more things to choose from while you are shopping. Happy summer fun!

Denise Sanger is the owner of NewCoolToysOnline.com which features a fantastic selection of outdoor toys including ride-on toys and battery ride on toys.
With the continuing demand for Mickey Mouse toys, cartoons and a whole range of Mickey related paraphernalia, it's always good to take a look back at how this phenomenon actually started. Today, we're going to take a look at one of the earliest cartoons, Steamboat Willie.

Released in 1928 it was the 3rd Mickey Mouse Cartoon and the first to feature synchronized sound. Steamboat Willie premiered in New York. it was an instant hit.

Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks wrote and directed the film, parodying Steamboat Bill Jr, a Buster Keaton film. The music was put together by Wilfred Jackson who was a Disney animator. Popular songs included 'Steamboat Bill' and 'Turkey in the Straw'.

There have been a number of controversies relating to the copyright of the film, although recent evidence suggests that issues relating to the original copyright may in fact, place 'Steamboat Willie' in the public domain. The film is selected for preservation in the United States Film registry and was voted number 13 out of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time.

The film has been subject to the censors scissors in the past. Mickey's pulling of a cat's tail and swinging it around his head caught the censor's eye, as did the using of a goose as a set of bagpipes.
DVD release

Steamboat Willie formed part of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD. it was also released as a DVD title, 'Vintage Mickey' which was a collection of Black and White Mickey Mouse Cartoons.
Video games

With so many Mickey toys and games being developed, it was hardly surprising that Mickey would feature in a video game. 'Steamboat Willie' was used as a the basis for the first level of the video game Mickey Mania: The Timeless Adventures of Mickey Mouse. This was released for the Super Nintendo games console, but also made it onto the Sega CD and Sony Play stations.

In the Disney game Kingdom Hearts II a 'Steamboat Willie' inspired and themed world feature period versions of the characters.

It is pretty amazing that a 1928 cartoon, primitive as it appears now, could have spawned such a market for Mickey Mouse Toys and other items. A search on the web brings forward a vast array of mickey related items. Board games, dressing up sets, earrings, ears, bedding, pajamas, video games, dozens of DVD releases and a whole lot more besides. There is a toy for all occasions. Mickey is never far away and the obsession appears as strong as ever.

Having lived as a child in the 1970's, with Mickey Mouse on TV so often, the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on every Saturday, I would never have dreamed that, eighty years after his first film debut, mickey Mouse would still be going strong...amazing !!

S M Reed

Mickey Mouse Toys

http://www.mickeymousetoys.net

It makes for an enjoyable day to sit in the backyard and watch your child or children play. Sometimes they make up their own games, but other times they love to play with toys. The thing is though for you need to get toys for your kids that are designed for the outdoors.

Many toys have been designed over the year for the backyard enjoyment of your kids. Today you can find even more backyard toys than ever before. There are several sport games that you can get.

Indoor/outdoor bowling games are great for younger children. They can practice getting strikes without hitting any walls. Your kids will be so proud when the knock down any of the pins let alone get a strike. This is also a fun one for you to play with your kids too.

There are all styles of bounce houses that can be bought for the yard. There are round ones, ones shaped like castles, and even one that can be a hideaway. The kids hop and bounce for as long as their energy holds out sometimes with these bounce houses.

This is good for them and makes them less hyper in the house. The can work off all their energy outside and then come inside calmer. This is why you want them to play outside other than getting fresh air.

There are various play centers that you can set up in the backyard too. These usually have multiple activities for your kids to play with. They will have balls, a steering wheel, or other things to hold the children's attention. Play centers are usually big enough for more than one child to comfortably play with.

What the real fun is the riding toys. There are many styles of battery-operated vehicles for the kids to ride on. They range from ATVs to motorcycles. Kids feel grown driving cars, ATVs and motorcycles designed in a size just for them. The kids really love the cool go karts though. They can pretend they are racing.

There are riding toys for the toddlers too. Some are just powered by pedaling. Others are battery or foot-on-floor powered. These are great active toys for the toddlers. They need to learn coordination and these will help them to do just that. They have to steer the toys in the right direction to get to where they want to go.

It does not matter which backyard toys you buy your children as long as they are safely having fun with them. Remember that even through fun they are learning. It does not have to be reading and educational activities for a child to learn. They can learn motor skills by playing. These are the skills their bodies will have such as eye-hand coordination.

So make sure your children have the right toys to play with outside, and enjoy watching them play with them each day. You will be spending quality time with them while they are having plenty of fun!

Denise Sanger is the owner of NewCoolToysOnline.com which features a fantastic selection of outdoor toys and outdoor play toys for kids of all ages including toddler outdoor toys.
Nurturing Intelligence - The Role of Games, Toys and Puzzles in Development
By Sharon Roth

I have always treated and considered puzzles from an educational standpoint, for the reason that they constitute a species of mental gymnastics which sharpen the wits and train the mind to reason along straight lines. Puzzles are a school for cleverness and ingenuity.

-Sam Lloyd (1841-1911)

The above quote by one of the world's greatest puzzle masters, written much before the emergence of the fields of cognitive psychology and neurology, sheds light on what is now being confirmed by advanced tools and research in the realms of cognitive development.

Studies have confirmed that the interaction with stimulating learning games along with objects to explore, increases the number of branches on the nerve cells in the brain and can promote better learning

[1]. Furthermore, a team led by Torkel Klingberg at the Karolinska Institute, part of the Stockholm Brain Institute, has found signs that the neural systems that underlie working memory (a cognitive function related to general intelligence) may grow in response to training

[2]. Regarding the neural basis for development and plasticity of cognitive functions during childhood, in particular the development of attention and working memory, this information shows that correct training and educational exposure can yield sustained attention, better impulse control and improved learning ability, as well as correct critical learning deficits

[3]. Historically, a person's IQ - a measure of all kinds of mental problem-solving abilities, including spatial skills, memory and verbal reasoning - was thought to be fixed by nature - locked into a person's genes. However, Dr. Beth Lucy Wellman (1895-1952), a professor of child psychology at the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station was instrumental in advancing her findings that a child's IQ and scholastic performance depend on the quality of intellectual stimulation and social environment

[4]. Leading the way for the type of research currently being conducted as to what type of nurture will provide the best medium to develop a child's abilities. What, in particular, compose the "positive, nurturing environments that encourage interaction and response - the conditions for developing the more complex neural networks that appear to be the 'hardware' of intelligence"

[5]. Many psychologists and researchers have come to a decidedly intuitive and simple conclusion, one that hearkens back to the words of Sam Lloyd: Child's play - Fostering children at play through enriching games, puzzles and activities - and in doing so, nurturing major cognitive functions and crucial developmental stages. Children who are furnished with construction toys, such as wooden cubes and geometric puzzles develop visual-spatial abilities that are related to math and science achievement.

[6]. These types of toys can stimulate visual/spatial thinking and problem solving, demonstrating skills vital to "future engineers, architects, pilots, mathematicians, scientists, computer programmers or technicians, entrepreneurs, artists musicians, mechanics, human relations professionals, or spiritual leaders"

[7]. Furthermore, the skills developed through the interaction with tangible 3-D toys and geometrical puzzles that stimulate visual spatial learning are reinforced through haptic perception - the tactile perception through the skin and kinesthetic perception of the position and movement of the joints and muscles, a developmentally important experience lacking in computerized models and games. The development of executive function, the activity of the brain that is responsible for the ability to manage organization, priority-setting, time management, and decision making is dependent on the high order processes of elective attention, behavioral planning and response inhibition, as well as the manipulation of information in problem-solving tasks.

[8]. It is crucial for children as they mature into young adults and its function in self-regulation is incredibly important. Poor executive function is associated with high dropout rates, drug use and crime, whereas good executive function is a better predictor of success in school than a child's IQ, as well as effective development in almost every domain.

[9]. Children develop executive functions through "learning to be organized, using a routine, purposeful scenarios for problem solving and higher order thinking"

[10]. These are all features of many simple wooden toys and brainteasers. Unfortunately, many of today's games and toys are overly structured, goal-oriented, and push the child to follow predetermined scripts, whether through guided computer activity, or by actively directing the play of the child through talking, lights, buttons and levers. To counteract this, in addition to giving the child "unstructured" play time, toys that don't command the child, but rather leave the child in command, can be very useful. Professor Hirsh-Pasek, of Temple University, Philadelphia, recommends searching the "least traveled aisles" in toyshops to parents who "really want to prepare their children for life in next generation"

[11]. Traditional wooden toys make a pleasing change from the noisy, flashing plastic equivalents that fill the shelves of toyshops today. It has also been shown that toys and puzzles with distinct, ordered solutions that require time, patience and planning to solve yield added benefits to the learning process within the exciting moment of recognition in which the correct solution is achieved. The authors of a review on Engineering Education at Indiana University posit this "ah-ha!" moment as an "important cognitive event" of the learning process. Specifically it "enhances performance in creative problem solving and creative design, and it can play a role in transforming learning from an activity of drudgery to one of enjoyment.

[12]. The search for a solution to challenging puzzles produces such "ah-ha!" moments, which in turn can lead to the development of students who will find learning exciting later in life. On the macro level, toys, games and child's play crucial to neural and cognitive development also have specific functions within particular stages of childhood. Using the Constructivist Theory of child development, advanced by Jean Piaget, many psychologists have advised parents and educators to structure the physical environment of children so that learning and development occur naturally, and in appropriate stages, through the interaction with the environment and people around them.
Again, appropriate materials are necessary to this structuring, including toys and games that stimulate interaction. Various Mind Twisters, Brain Teasers, and Geometric Riddles and Puzzles are essential to give children and students a chance to manipulate objects and test out ideas and hypothesis as they progress to Middle Childhood.

[13] board games and others with specific rules have been shown to enhance discrete skills as well as cooperation, understanding and logical thinking. For example, researchers working at the National Association for the Education of Young Children in Washington, D.C recently found a correlation between math achievement and students' exposure to board games at home.

[14]. Furthermore, in today's high tech world, it is interesting to note that when it comes to games, toys and puzzles, the more traditional, simple, tactile, loosely structured, visual/spatial offerings can make a very significant contribution to a child's intelligence and developmental well-being. Thus, it is not a surprise that Sam Lloyd, speaking 100 years ago, is still relevant to the discussion of education and the development of intelligence today.

References for this article can be found here.

Sharpen the wits and train the mind @ http://www.MonkeyPodGames.com

When it comes to good times and great fun that can be shared with family, co-workers, acquaintances and friends alike, it is hard to beat an arsenal of airzooka air guns. The beauty of this is that they are entirely harmless and can be used just about anywhere. This of course doesn't even begin to describe all the uses for them. It seems that no matter what you are doing you can use this fun toy. From running around the cube farm at work and shooting puffs of air at your colleagues to buying them for your children to play with at their next birthday party, the airzooka air gun is versatile, fun, and safe.

At this point you are probably wondering what an airzooka air gun is. Well much like it sounds it is an air bazooka of sorts. It shoots air across a room much like a bullet. It is made by pulling back a membrane and then releasing. A rubber band type system gives it spring and then it shoots the air across the room. It shoots it well enough to blow out candles, muss up someone's hair, or even blow papers onto the floor.

A great place to use these is at work. The fun and games you can play is second to none. Knock over a cubemates papers and see their reactions. Or mess up your arch nemesis' hair from 30 feet away. People can only laugh as the puff of air comes from out of nowhere to wreak havoc on their body. On top of that, bring them to your child's birthday party and let the children there use it. They can shoot each other from across the room and all that they will feel is a the rush of air as it passes by them. Truly a great safe and fun toy to play with just about anywhere.

Finding toys like the airzooka doesn't come around often. Once you have one you will be happy you purchased it and you will be the life of the party wherever you go.

Darin enjoys discussing many topics on toys and games. Please visit his site on the Airzooka Air Gun to learn about several topics around this fun toy.
